- Students will recreate the popular story by putting themselves in the story. They will write their own version of And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

- Students will begin the weather project. Students will choose a type of weather event and research its causes, effects, trends, technology associated with the event, and more.
- This project will become a green screen project in which students will be weather reporters and make their own news cast.

Week 17- The Polar Express
- Students will write a letter to Santa using a friendly letter format.
- Make text to self connections
- Enroll in a pen-pal program and allow your child practice at writing friendly letters
Week 16- Christmas Around the World
- Students will discuss the Christmas traditions of those living in England
- Compare those to the traditions we have in the United States
- Discuss your own family's traditions with your child
- Research the Christmas traditions families have in other countries
Week 15- How Many Days to America?
- Students will hear the story How Many Days to America?
- Students will work in groups to determine different "what if" scenarios that would have changed this family's journey to America
- Ask your child to talk to you about the Pilgrims' journey to America. Ask questions about how their lives might have been different.
- Ask your child if he or she could make the journey to America.

Week 13- Cross Curricular Book Fair Activity
- Students will use the book fair guide to perform various activities-
- Make a list of what items they would like and add the amount
- Create a budget and determine how much change they would get back
- Write a persuasive letter to mom and dad
- Sort the books into correct genres- fiction, non-fiction, biography, mystery
- Look at the Book Fair guide with your child
- Come shop the Book Fair with your child on Tuesday evening or on Thursday during lunch.
Week 12- Map of Alabama
- In conjunction with Social Studies, students will use encyclopedias and atlases to draw and label the state of Alabama, its three largest cities, major rivers, interstates, and more!
- Expose your child to atlases, maps, encyclopedias, and other reference materials.
Week 11- Spider Writing
- Students will write non-fiction information on spiders to complete graphic organizer with facts. Then, the students will write a short paper about spiders.

- Work on capital letters, punctuation, complete sentences, and paragraphs

- Review story elements using The Three Pigs- character, setting, plot.
- Understand plot of story using sequence words such as first, next, then, and last.
- Read with your child and go over the story elements using sequence words.
Week 3- Learning the Dewey Decimal System
- Students will watch a presentation on the Dewey Decimal System and the types of books that are in each section.
- Students will work with a partner to complete the Dewey Scavenger Hunt
